First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Morningstar.
Quality Analyst
We had 4 rounds of interviews. First was Aptitude, then a Technical round, followed by a Director Level interview, and finally an HR round. If you know some Finance questions and technical questions about SQL or data cleaning, extraction, and mining, that will be helpful.
- What is your understanding of Data Quality and can you tell me about your past experience with quality-related tasks?
- Can you elaborate on your previous tasks concerning data quality?
Senior QA Engineer
There were 2 rounds of interviews. The first was purely technical focusing on Java and Selenium. The second round was a mix of technical and process-related questions. I got a call from HR saying I cleared both rounds and to send my documents. However, there was no further response from them. The HR team was very unresponsive, not replying to emails or calls, just saying they were busy and would call back. If they couldn't meet the expected offer, they should have stated that before the interview. Not responding after the interview because they can't afford the offer is unprofessional. Worst HR team, not professional.
- They asked about Java questions and Selenium questions
Quality Assurance Analyst
This was my second time applying for a job at Morningstar. I declined an on-site interview the first time. A few months later, I reapplied and HR reached out a couple days later. We had a quick phone interview, and then I was invited on-site. I met with four people. The first three were really nice and easy to talk to. However, the last person I met with seemed disengaged and uninterested. They even insulted me during the interview. I had prepared for four days, so I answered their questions appropriately. Even though the first three interviews were good, I have to rate this experience negatively because of the insult. Morningstar seems like a great place to work, and I'd apply again, but I'm happy with my current job.
- If you had two competing priorities with the same deadline and no supervisor to help you decide, how would you choose which one to tackle first?
- How has your previous experience prepared you for this role?
