& Process

I had a phone chat with someone from the US Office, and then went for a face-to-face interview at their office in Tunbridge Wells. The Director of Operations was on the phone during the in-person chat. It was pretty weird, I travelled all the way from South West London and then got absolutely no feedback after the face-to-face interview. This was even though I had a good email exchange with a senior person after the interview when I sent a thank-you note. I waited for two months and heard nothing, which I thought was really rude. I ended up taking another job. The interview itself was nice though, I enjoyed chatting with the staff and felt really comfortable. But it seems pretty bad to not give any feedback at all.

So I applied for a Project Manager job, but they already hired someone, so HR asked if I wanted to try for the Project Coordinator role instead, and I said sure. First, I had a 30-minute Teams call with HR where they asked about my organization skills and experience with CAT tools. Then, I had a video interview with the Senior Manager and Senior Project Manager. This one was kind of weird, felt like they were just asking questions randomly without a clear path, and I couldn't read their reactions. After that, they set up a third interview with the director of translation services. Turns out, he was just there for a second opinion because the Senior Manager wasn't sure. This last interview was way better, they actually asked questions based on what I was saying. Even after three interviews, I didn't get the job. When I asked why, to help me improve, they said it's company policy not to give feedback.

So I applied for this translator role, and honestly, I was pretty qualified, I speak the language fluently and everything. But the interview process was really something else. The first interviewer, she was super abrupt and actually had the wrong resume in front of her. When I pointed it out, she just went and got mine without even an apology, saying 'Oh, you're not Jane Doe?' It felt like she hadn't prepared at all, and her questions were clearly based on Jane Doe's resume. The second interviewer was nicer, but weirdly, no one actually asked about my language skills, and none of them even spoke the language I was applying to translate.

I found the job on a typical job search engine and got a quick response from HR. My first interview was with the HR rep and a sales director, where they asked straightforward questions based on my resume. A week or two later, I had a final interview with two more senior people, an operations director and a senior management member. They also asked straightforward questions tailored to my resume.
