First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Moon Active.
Software Engineer
Got an hr phone call where they asked about my background and experience. Then there was a team lead interview that focused on my last job and solving architecture problems. Lastly, a codilty test involving react, mongodb, and express. The codilty test has rules against using any external sources, but they don't actually check it, so most candidates can use ChatGPT and pass easily, but those who don't cheat won't.

Software Engineer
Moon Active scheduled an interview for me, and I arrived exactly on time. I waited about 20 minutes for the interviewers, and then two people showed up. One was professional and asked questions without excessive commentary. The other interviewer was quite intense, frequently interrupting me with challenging questions, which made it difficult to concentrate and be clear. Following that, we moved to a more hands-on exercise where I had to write a complete script on blank paper. This involved a series of four specific feature requests that needed to work together. While the task itself was manageable, doing it with a pencil and paper felt cumbersome, almost like torture. The questions from the intense interviewer afterward were vague and phrased oddly, taking me a couple of minutes to understand. It felt like he was trying to trip me up. By this point, I was feeling quite frustrated. The final request was presented in a very confusing and slow manner, and I admitted I didn't understand what was being asked, making it hard to implement. He immediately seemed to view this as a failure. The interview concluded with them asking if I had questions. After I asked a few basic ones and they responded, they indicated the interview was over, closed their laptops, and pointed me towards the exit, which was a rather strange way to leave after the initial welcome.
- Can you create a method that accepts a String and returns true if all '[' characters are matched by a corresponding ']', handling edge cases like empty strings, null input, or a ']' appearing before a '['?
- Could you write a function similar to the previous one, but this time it should count occurrences of multiple character pairs, such as '[]', '{}', and 'aA', 'bB'?
- Please design a translation system capable of handling all specified character cases on demand.
Software Engineer
The people and process were very nice, everything was very guided and each interview was with the relevant person for the team you interview for. There were 5 steps which included 2 technical interviews + HR calls and a home assignment. Everything felt fair and aligned with coding and not the boring leet code interviews.
- Could you start by telling us about yourself and your experience?
- We have some general questions, and we'd like to know how you would design a table for a case.
- There's a React + Node assignment we'd like you to complete.
