Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Moody's Investors Service.
Financial Data Analyst
It was a 3-round interview process that wrapped up in three weeks. The questions were aligned with the role. The first two rounds were technical, and the final round focused on character assessment. The interview process itself was smooth, with no issues in communication between the interviewer and HR.
- Could you outline the risks associated with asset-backed securities?
Financial Data Analyst
First I had a call with RH. She was super nice and asked me some accounting questions like naming the 3 financial statements, what's in a bank balance sheet, and what's the most important part of it. She also asked about my motivations and past work. Next, I had an accounting test with three sections. The first part was about how different transactions affect the balance sheet (asset, liabilities, equity), asking to mark +, - or nothing. The second part was a reading comprehension quiz with multiple-choice questions. The third part was a math test covering probabilities, charts, and tables – definitely brush up on your formulas! I'm still waiting to hear back about the third round, which will be with the management team.
- Can you explain the impact of split equity on the balance sheet?
- What is the effect on the balance sheet when goods and services are sold at a reduced cost?
- How do convertible bonds affect the balance sheet?
Financial Data Analyst
I had three interviews with different team members, going from junior to senior. The first one was on the phone, and then two more were in person. Each interview was about an hour long.
- Can you list some of the line items found on an income statement?
