This was a humiliating and time-wasting experience. It involved a tedious and obscure home coding task where the recruiter wouldn't clarify requirements, which could have saved me hours. I didn't ask for hints, just a yes/no on edge cases. After two days of work, I got a one-line rejection email saying my code was "sub-standard." I doubt it was that bad, given my experience at Big Tech companies with good references. My submission followed industry standards like unit tests, clean code, design patterns, and async calls. Even if it wasn't perfect, they could have provided more constructive feedback.

I applied online for the summer intern position and heard back about three weeks later. The next week I had a phone interview and then an onsite interview. Overall, it was a great experience and everyone was really friendly. They didn't ask any tough technical questions, but it's still good to prepare. For software engineering, you should know data structures, algorithms, OOD, and coding well. If you don't know an answer, don't panic, just explain your thought process for solving hard problems. Always show you want to learn.
