Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Monster Worldwide.
Recruiter
I had a phone interview with a Sourcing Specialist, which was nice and informative. Then, I went through four 30-minute interviews with two recruiting managers, an HR team member, and a senior HR leader. After that, I had a final round with two senior tech leaders and the recruiting manager for product and tech, but the hiring manager wasn't there, so I met with three recruiting team members instead. The tech people were great. Monster is making good progress, and it's exciting to see their efforts. It was disappointing that the hiring manager didn't respond to my thank you emails or acknowledge our missed interview. I understand being busy, but the candidate experience suffered. Four days after the final interview, I was told they hired someone else. The interviews themselves were positive, but the lack of communication from the person I would report to soured the whole thing.
- Without using competitor services like Careerbuilder or LinkedIn for posting jobs or sourcing, what strategies would you employ to find candidates?
Recruitment Consultant
I got contacted by the Talent Acquisition team. We had a quick chat. Then I met with 4 hiring managers all at once. They did a background check and asked for references to continue. One manager liked me and thought I had a good shot. I waited about two weeks and they let me know I got the job.
- They asked me some basic questions.
- There weren't really any tough questions.
- They let me do most of the talking, and I did.
Talent Acquisition
The interview process was pretty standard. First, a 25-minute phone screen with a recruiter. Honestly, the recruiter didn't seem very engaged or like they were trying to sell the job or company. After that, I had a Skype interview with the manager, which went well. Then I waited a week to get the offer. The downside was the slow response times; it usually took at least a week to hear back about the process.
