Manager
I did a one-way video interview and then a panel interview. They gave me a verbal offer after, but wouldn't send it in writing until I accepted the verbal offer. The hiring manager pushed me to accept quickly, saying the role should've been filled already. The offer was quite low for a Manager role needing 4+ years of experience. I declined, and then saw the job reposted, suggesting their second choice also declined the low offer.
- Can you discuss issues related to data sources?
Manager
Applied online and felt like I wasn't really being considered. Got an email asking for a phone screen and to schedule via a link, but there was no link. I sent two emails and left two voicemails over two weeks. Finally, I got an email back saying I'd get a call later that afternoon. The call was only 10 minutes and didn't feel positive. Despite that, I was scheduled for a one-hour phone interview with the hiring manager. It was a standard STAR interview that lasted the whole hour. When I asked about next steps, I was told to keep in touch with HR, but I wasn't given the interviewer's contact info. My HR contact never replied to my questions. Three weeks later, I got a generic rejection email from the system.
- Can you share an example of a situation using the STAR method?
- Walk me through a challenging project using the STAR method.
- Describe a time you had to deal with a difficult situation with a stakeholder using the STAR method.
Insights Manager
I applied for the role at the end of Dec 2013 and a friend submitted my info through employee referral. With the Holidays, I didn't expect to hear back soon. It took about 3 weeks to set up my initial phone screen with the recruiter. About 3 weeks after that I was invited for an in-person interview. My in-person was scheduled for 2/13. I was to meet with the hiring manager, his manager and the Director of the group. Although I wasn't aware ahead of time, this ended up being a panel review, which caught me off guard. There wasn't anything particularly surprising about the interview. They each gave me an overview of what they do and how they work together. The questions they asked me were all situational. I had prepared the night before using some online resources and many of the questions I prepared were too similar to the ones they asked. Following the interview, they let me know that I was the first person they had interviewed and that they were meeting with other candidates over the next week. The recruiter did follow up with me as promised within a week to let me know that they had decided to move forward with another candidate. I did appreciate the personal email vs. the standard automated one that many employers send.
