First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Modus Create.
Front End Developer
I sent in my application and resume. They got back to me pretty fast and we set up a chat with HR. After that, I was sent a coding challenge. Once they reviewed the coding challenge and it went well, I had a technical interview. Then, I got an offer and accepted it.
- What technical questions did you encounter, and were there any problem-solving scenarios presented?
- Describe any problem-solving situations you faced during the interview.
Frontend Engineer
It's a really good process, they ask about myself, my previous experience, stuff like that, and why I want to change my current company, passed a nice vibe, how they work and how they want to work in the future!
- Could you tell me about yourself?
- What makes you want to work at this company?
- How did you hear about Modus?
Front End Developer
I applied through Stock Overflow and was contacted a few days later for a first stage interview. Scheduling this was a bit of a hassle, as the calendar links they sent had limited availability that didn't always match my schedule. The first interview was with HR, covering the company, my background, salary expectations, and notice period. Next, I had a technical interview that included a 30-minute exercise before a 1-on-1 with a developer. This developer had strong opinions on software development and asked questions that sometimes felt overly complex or theoretical. I asked them why they liked working there, and their answer was 'because they do things my way'. A few days later, I had a third interview with another technical person, which was more comfortable. We discussed the potential project and how I've handled situations with my skills. This felt more realistic. After another few days, I was invited to a fourth and supposedly final 'informal' chat. While it started casually, they then asked more technical questions, which seemed redundant after the previous interviews. The interviewer seemed out of touch with current Javascript and React trends, asking about ES5 vs ES6 and pre-hooks React. They then asked me to do a Fizz Buzz quiz, even though I had already used Typescript for a previous React test. This felt discouraging. Some days later, I received an offer. I tried to negotiate the rate, but they stated I was a mid-level, not senior, developer based on their process, so they couldn't offer more. I accepted the offer, but then never heard from them again. It seems like they hire a lot from Eastern Europe for cheaper talent.
