Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Moderna.
Engineering Co-op
It was a great interview. Very technical heavy. I spoke with engineers that graduated from the same university as me and were familiar with my technical knowledge for my stage.
- Which product offering do you find most interesting?
- Could you tell me about your relevant coursework?
Engineer
This was a really long and drawn out process for a mid level engineering role. I had to chase them a few times to get a response after interview rounds, you can tell the company is still growing and it shows in their hiring process. I had a phone screen, then an interview with the hiring manager, and after that, 6 back to back interviews that were anywhere from 30 minutes to 50 minute panels. The interviews were pretty informal and it seemed like everyone on the team was involved. It's clear Moderna is still a young company and has a startup vibe even though they've grown a lot recently. Most employees seem younger, which I saw as a downside for the company environment because there wasn't much experience or leadership.
- What makes you want to be considered for this position?
- What would you say is your greatest strength and weakness?
- Can you tell me about a project you were most successful with?
Engineer
Started with a recruiter email asking me to complete an online survey about core values. The first recruiter call was really good and friendly. We talked about core values and the job details. The recruiter knew a lot about the team and tech stuff, which was a surprise! Then I had an interview with the manager, but it was a letdown; they were yawning during the chat and seemed uninterested. No technical questions were asked. I did appreciate how the recruiter kept in touch via email, usually responding within a day or two.
- Can you describe some of your previous experiences?
- What kind of management style do you prefer when working?
