The whole process had many stages, which is pretty typical for engineering roles, especially at this staff level. It took around 3 weeks from the initial phone screen until I got the offer, and that period included a holiday weekend. Everything felt pretty fair and the interviewers were all nice and seemed really into it. They didn't throw any tricky leetcode problems or surprises at me. For the interviews, they used Coderbyte and Figma.

So, the interview process here is pretty standard, nothing too wild: first, you gotta do a take-home coding challenge that'll probably take you about 3 hours. After that, you'll have a 30-minute chat with an engineer to go over your take-home. Then comes the virtual onsite, which is like a 4-5 hour marathon of different types of interviews, some technical, some not. Honestly, most people I talked to were cool, but the whole experience could have been way better. They'd leave you hanging for ages between stages with zero updates, and then after the onsite, they just ghosted me. If you're thinking about interviewing here, maybe think twice.

The interview process was really bad. It started with a basic intro call. After that, you had a choice between a take-home assessment or doing a Coderbyte. The weird part is that you don't talk to any engineers at the company in either of these stages, which felt like a red flag. I tried to ask some questions by replying to old emails, but they just started new emails asking me to hurry up with the assignment instead of answering me. This happened three times. Then, I set up a call to get my questions answered, but they totally ghosted me on the call and I never heard back. It was super unprofessional and chaotic. If Modern Health is struggling to hire engineers, they should really look at how they handle recruiting and the candidate experience. This has been the worst interview experience I've had compared to other companies I'm talking to.

Confirmed questions2 questions
  • CoderByte presented scenario-based questions.
  • Asked to build a tic tac toe game on CoderByte.
