Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Model N.
Sales Manager
My initial conversation with Dan Park, the GTM Sales Recruiter at Model N, was really unique. He was so open, friendly, and genuinely interested in my background and goals, which stood out from other companies. He was always available and helpful throughout the whole process, being honest and direct. He seemed to really want what's best for both the company and the candidate. I then interviewed with several leaders at Model N, and I was really impressed with each one. The conversations felt natural and not forced. They asked all kinds of questions, allowing me to learn about the company, the culture, and the people I'd be working with. It felt like they were truly interested in me as a candidate, which made for a very positive and unique interview experience because they were all so approachable and authentic. The final and most crucial part was a presentation, designed for me to learn more about the company and for them to see how I handle sales presentations. Both Dan and the hiring manager even did a practice run-through with me beforehand, which showed me how collaborative and supportive the team is. While interviewing isn't usually fun, this was an enjoyable and positive experience.

- How would you approach a sales presentation?
Sales Manager
I was reached out to by a recruiter, Dan Park, while I was on sabbatical. Even though I wasn't actively looking, Dan's conversation and Model N's flexibility to consider candidates for future start dates caught my attention. Dan was professional and confident about the company's direction, setting a good tone for my subsequent interviews with Model N leadership. The interviews were scheduled quickly and accommodated my availability. My conversations with the leadership team felt very genuine, focusing on my personality, background, and work style. Since the Regional Sales Manager role requires experience in account management and existing customer sales, my interviews often went over the scheduled time, lasting an extra 15-30 minutes. By 'genuine,' I mean the conversations were straightforward, without unnecessary jargon, discussing real scenarios and experiences plainly. This was refreshing during my career reset, showing potential for finding employers with authentic people. My impression remains this way, even though my start date isn't until January. I did have to prepare a presentation, which made me a bit nervous, but I was informed they were making an offer. I spent a few hours preparing and rehearsing the presentation from an existing customer perspective, and also researched the Model N website. In total, from the initial recruiter contact to the end, including interview preparation and research, I invested about 8-10 hours, which felt worthwhile.
- Could you describe your strategy for taking on a sales role with an existing book of business?
- What aspects of starting a new job present the biggest challenges, in your experience?
Sales Manager
Had interviews with 5 different people for 45 minutes each. After investing several hours into this process, I was ghosted. Totally unprofessional and lacking professional courtesy. If they run their interview process this poorly - I feel like I dodged a bullet.
- Tell me about your general sales process.
- What were your past sales achievements?
