Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Mochi Health.
UI/UX Designer
I had an interview with the CEO, who spoke very fast, making it hard to follow. I was also given a design challenge and asked questions about it, but my questions for clarification weren't answered. The CEO asked about a feature I didn't include, even though it wasn't in the write-up. I noticed she only looked at my designs right before the interview, even though I can track views.
- Can you tell me about your special skill?
UX/UI Designer
It was the initial call, and the conversation went pretty smoothly. If the candidate meets the basic qual, they give them the design challenge and steal their idea, lol. Their attitude was pretty nice.
- Do you have any prior experience in healthcare?
UX Designer
The interview process started with a screening, then they gave me a design take-home assignment. After I spent 10-20 hours on the take-home, I had a very brief 15-minute meeting with what I think was the CEO. She was a little late and only asked me a couple of questions about my design work, and it seemed like she hadn't fully reviewed my presentation or video. My questions got short, cold answers, and I could tell she wasn't really interested. She said I'd hear back in two weeks, but it sounded like she just made that up, and I got rejected the next day, which I kind of expected given the vibe. I think it's unfair to give such a big design challenge and then not dedicate enough time or attention to reviewing it, especially when typical interviews for these challenges are at least 30-40 minutes with other designers. I hope Mochi Health considers making take-homes later in the process and gives candidates more serious consideration with team interviews. I also got the impression the recruiter might be overwhelmed, so I hope she gets the support she needs. I'm sharing this to advise other applicants about the interview process.
- What are your career aspirations for the next five years?
- Can you describe your design process and decisions?
