I interviewed for a Software Developer role. The process started with a phone background check with the recruiter. Then, I had a coding assignment to complete, which was straightforward but time-consuming and similar to solutions found online. I was then informed they downgraded my entry-level status without explanation, which they later admitted to during the onsite interview. The onsite was a full day event including a tour, group activity, lunch, and open discussion, focusing heavily on social skills and cultural fit. The technical portion was brief, only 30 minutes at the end of the day, and consisted mainly of questions about past projects rather than pure technical assessments. Due to time limits, I couldn't ask any questions. I received a rejection email over a week later with no specific feedback, and they claimed to have tried to contact me earlier. Travel costs weren't reimbursed, and the offered salary was low. Overall, a very negative and unproductive experience.

The initial step involved a Skype call with a recruiter who seemed to lack technical knowledge, using buzzwords and rushing the conversation. Following that, there was a take-home assignment which was a standard knapsack problem variation. My solution was reviewed, and they decided to move forward, though the feedback email was forwarded directly, revealing critical comments and even an accusation of copying the solution for a well-known problem. A recruiter then contacted me about 5 weeks later than expected to schedule a phone interview with two engineers. Despite rescheduling the interview time without consent, I attended. The interview, conducted by technical managers, was intense and fast-paced, leaving only 5 minutes for my questions. When I inquired about the applications, their features, and size, the interviewer refused to provide any details.

Behavioral Technical Coding

So there were three interviews in total. First up was an HR person who did a great job introducing the company, its culture, and vision, and then let me ask questions. It was a really smooth and straightforward chat thanks to them. After that, I got a coding assignment, which was pretty good. They even said to take my time, which I appreciated. The next interview was with some Software Engineers. We chatted about my current work and challenges, and they hit me with a few technical questions plus a code review task. They were super nice. The last interview felt a bit more like a culture fit check, but it also went really well. All in all, I talked to five people from the company, and it was a great experience.

Confirmed questions3 questions
  • Can you elaborate on the development lifecycle of your current project?
  • Could you provide more details about your architecture?
  • Let's go over some code together. What are your thoughts on this snippet?
