First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at MobilityWare.
Software Engineer
I started with a quick call with a recruiter, then had a more in-depth chat with the hiring manager. After that, I got a programming test to do at home. The final stage involved three panel interviews, and they included a review of my take-home test.
- Are there alternative methods for configuring Unity data directly from the editor?
Software Engineer
The interview started with a standard initial screening call. The interviewer seemed very positive and quickly set up a second interview. In the second interview, I was asked to describe a system I'd worked on before. This felt like a potentially problematic question due to NDAs and privacy concerns, but I did my best. The interviewer was quite critical, calling my answer 'not impressive' and then gave an example that didn't even address the original question. The job posting mentioned a minimum of 1 year of experience, which I have, so I'm not sure why the interviewer acted like they weren't expecting entry-to-mid level candidates. Based on my experience and other feedback, there seem to be significant communication issues in MobilityWare's hiring process.
- Can you describe a system you have worked on in the past?
Senior Software Engineer
The interview started with a phone call from HR, then I had a technical phone interview with the engineering manager, and finally an on-site technical interview. During the on-site, I first met some engineers from the team I'd join, which involved hands-on coding related to my specialty. I finished this part early and chatted until my next interview. Then I met 4 more director/VP level people, who seemed interested in interviewing me. Their questions mostly involved some whiteboarding, some easy, others not really related to the role. I thought the interview went well and it seemed like a good fit. I was surprised they didn't offer me the job because they said I "wasn't senior enough". I hope politics weren't involved. If they truly thought I wasn't senior enough, I disagree. Besides the initial coding, few questions were job-related, maybe because interviewers lacked specific domain experience. The best way to evaluate someone is to have them do the job, maybe with pair programming, to see if they sink or swim. I had 4 other great senior offers but was most excited about MobilityWare and willing to take less pay. I know I would have made a big impact there.
- Could you describe how you would construct and organize a leaderboard system for approximately 10 million users, and what challenges might arise in showing and updating a user's rank within such a large-scale leaderboard?
- What are the complexities involved in displaying and recalculating a user's position within a leaderboard that has about 10 million users?
