Behavioral Technical

The first interview round had a mix of technical and behavioral questions. I was asked about my past product marketing experiences and challenges. The interviewer was nice and the company's structure is interesting.

Behavioral Technical

I had a quick pre-interview phone call. The interviewer talked about the company's history and asked about my background and work experience. After I talked about my history, we chatted a bit, and they told me if I was good enough for a second interview, a test, and then further steps. The next day, I got an email saying I didn't qualify because I didn't have enough experience in their specific field, even though I do have experience and good reviews for my work. The interview felt like a failure because they apparently didn't screen my work beforehand. They didn't like my work for the specific task, and if that was the case, they shouldn't have interviewed me. It gave me false hope, especially since the interview seemed to go well. My suggestion for them is to screen work more carefully before interviews. The Hiring Manager did look at my work links after I was rejected, but I still didn't qualify, which I think could have been avoided with better initial screening. The Hiring Manager also didn't think it was worth giving me a test to prove myself, even though a Senior Game Artist needs to be versatile and can prove their skills with a test. But I was denied one.

Behavioral Other

The recruiter was terrible at communicating. They set up a few phone/video calls for me, but it took about 3 weeks to get a response. Then they called to set up an in-person interview. We agreed on a date and they said they'd follow up. I didn't hear back until the day before I expected to go in, only to find out they rescheduled me for a week later. I reached out to confirm if this was a mistake since we agreed on a date for the current week. No response. I went in the following week for my 3-hour interview. About a week after that, I followed up with the recruiter, and 3-4 weeks later, still no response (obviously not expecting an offer at this point). The company seems amazing; the recruiter, however, was probably the worst communicator I've experienced.

Behavioral Technical Presentation

The interview was about 3 hours long and had 3 panels with 1-2 people each. It was intense but manageable. Divina, the first contact, was really nice and made me feel comfortable, giving me a studio tour before the interviews. I met 5 people. The first two asked about my past game creations and future goals in a casual way. Then I met the art director, the hiring manager. He wanted me to elaborate more on topics, but I wasn't sure what to focus on. He liked my personality but was unsure about my technical art skills. He said the next two interviewers would need to convince him I was a good fit. The next interview was with two technical artists, who were funny and lighthearted. We ran out of time, and Divina took me to meet the CEO, Jeff Erle. I had a friendly chat with Jeff about MobilityWare's values and future vision, which I really enjoyed. Unfortunately, I didn't get the job. HR called a few days later to let me know I passed the technical aspect but my artistic skills weren't strong enough. It seems like a great place to work with a caring team. I ended up getting another job as a Unity programmer. I still hope to work at MobilityWare someday, maybe in a programming role.
