First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Mobile Apps Company.
Software Engineer
The interview process took about a month. The interviewer had to reschedule with me three times due to emergencies. This job was for an entry-level app developer role focused on their clients, and if offered a position, you'd be sent to a boot camp. The process has three steps. First, a preliminary interview to get to know you. Second, a preliminary technical interview over the phone where they ask programming questions in a language you choose from their list. Finally, the technical interview, which involves coding live in front of them using your chosen language. I had to share my screen on Skype and code a simple sorting algorithm in Java within 10 minutes. For an entry-level role, they expect A+ students and are very strict about mistakes. My program had syntax errors and didn't compile, so I didn't get the job, even though my logic was sound. This was confusing because the job description mentioned a boot camp to 'sharpen my skills,' yet a small error disqualified me. I had been working with Rust and hadn't used Java much recently, but I picked Java as it was the most familiar option from their list.
- Could you explain and define the pillars of Object-Oriented Programming?
- Please write code to sort the array [5,4,3,2,1] into ascending order [1,2,3,4,5].
Software Engineer
We had a technical interview over Skype. They asked me basic Computer Science questions like OOP principles and some SQL. Then, I had to solve a simple problem in a language I chose, kind of like a HackerRank problem.
- Could you discuss a past project you were involved in and any challenges you successfully navigated?
- Describe your understanding of OOP principles.
- What are your thoughts on SQL?
Software Engineer
first a phone call, then a personality and aptitude test. After a few days they called me back with the results of the tests and once I passed the test a Skype interview was scheduled and it lasted about an hour and a half.
- What is your experience?
- What are your expectations?
