MMG Partners Analyst Interview Questions
& Process

I learned about MMG Partners through my university's on-campus recruiting. An alumna gave a presentation and I was impressed by how she presented herself and the firm. The CEO, Dr. Ma, was there too and I got to talk to him (very important!). After chatting with some other analysts, I understood how close-knit the employees at MMG are and decided to apply. The interview process had two rounds. The first round was on campus with two analysts, who were recent grads. I thought it might be intimidating, but they made me feel comfortable during the fit questions and helped me with the brainteaser/math problems. The second round was at the office. I met with an Associate Partner and the CEO again. These interviews were focused on brainteasers and math and were tougher than the first round. After a "sell lunch," I was sure I'd accept an offer. We had lunch at Blue Water Grill and then went back to the office for a Casino night. The people were smart and fun, and it felt like a good fit!

You'll have two interviews. The first one is with Analysts/Associates, and it's pretty chill, maybe a brain teaser and a qualitative question. The second interview is with the CEO and two partners. This one's tougher because they're looking for specific things, with much harder brain teasers and case questions, some with tricky traps. Make sure to think out loud and ask questions when you need to. If the CEO kicks you out after 5 minutes, that's a bad sign.

I applied through school and went to an info session where an analyst and the CEO talked. They mentioned they were looking for four qualities: common sense, intrinsic intelligence, a positive attitude, and the ability to get people to like you. My first interview was with an analyst, and we went over my resume and interests. This interview likely tested for the latter two qualities. The second round was with the CEO, who asked a question about dial locks and why a particular design was faulty. I didn't get the correct answer, even after a few hints. I think this question was meant to test intrinsic intelligence. My sister figured it out though, and my IQ is higher. My advice for these types of questions is to treat them like a strategy game and not overthink them, especially when given hints.
