First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at MMG Partners.
Warehouse Worker
The interview process was quick and felt pretty casual. I felt comfortable with the interviewer and wasn't nervous at all. They showed me different job options that could fit my schedule and talked about benefits that would be helpful.
- What are your 5-year career goals within this company?
Analyst
I learned about MMG Partners through my university's on-campus recruiting. An alumna gave a presentation and I was impressed by how she presented herself and the firm. The CEO, Dr. Ma, was there too and I got to talk to him (very important!). After chatting with some other analysts, I understood how close-knit the employees at MMG are and decided to apply. The interview process had two rounds. The first round was on campus with two analysts, who were recent grads. I thought it might be intimidating, but they made me feel comfortable during the fit questions and helped me with the brainteaser/math problems. The second round was at the office. I met with an Associate Partner and the CEO again. These interviews were focused on brainteasers and math and were tougher than the first round. After a "sell lunch," I was sure I'd accept an offer. We had lunch at Blue Water Grill and then went back to the office for a Casino night. The people were smart and fun, and it felt like a good fit!
- If you could have a superpower, which one would you pick?
Financial Analyst
My first interview was pretty chill. The person interviewing me seemed new to the role or maybe it was their first time interviewing anyone. They emailed me that same night to come in for an interview the next day with the CEO. It struck me as odd that the CEO would be interviewing college students. If the company is doing so well, why wouldn't a recruiter or HR person handle this? I get that it's a small company, but is the CEO really micromanaging that much? Anyway, he was really blunt, almost rude, and asked me two questions.
- What's your motivation for wanting to be a consultant?
- Given a standard working combination lock, if someone accessed what it was protecting without damaging the lock itself, what flaws in the lock would have made that possible?
Business Analyst
I initially attended an information session hosted by the CEO and some associates because I missed the application deadline via my school's career system. After their presentation, I spoke with some associates and the CEO for about 30 minutes, and then I handed over my resume before leaving. The very next day, I got an email to schedule a job interview for a few days later. Upon arrival, one of the associates from the info session met me and started the interview. It lasted around 45 minutes and was split evenly between logic puzzles (brain teasers to assess problem-solving approaches) and general conversation. During the interview, the interviewer stressed their focus on hiring individuals who are easy to get along with, both for team dynamics and client interactions, emphasizing this as a high priority. I managed to complete the logic puzzles relatively quickly, though each took a bit longer than I would have preferred. The conversation afterwards was pleasant. A few days later, I realized the deadline for second-round interview notifications had passed. This is understandable, as while I'm generally friendly, I might not be the type to immediately put someone at ease. My advice if you get an interview is to practice basic logic puzzles and focus on staying relaxed and friendly.
- Imagine a large cube constructed from smaller cubes. If you remove the front layer, then the back layer, then the bottom layer, and so on, how many small cubes remain in the large cube?
