Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Mixbook.
Senior Software Engineer
It was a great experience, they told me about all the steps upfront and I was able to negotiate the times and days for the interviews. They kept me fully informed, and I felt heard throughout the whole process. The interviews themselves were numerous, but none felt boring or unnecessary. Each interview focused on a different aspect of my personality, probing how I'd fit into Mixbook, and they handled it really well.
- Could you describe how you handle conflicts?
- How do you approach working under a tight deadline?
- What's your strategy when a teammate disagrees with your valid opinion?
Software Engineer
The hiring process was really long, stretching for about two months with multiple interview rounds, starting with online interviews and moving to on-site interviews at their office. I was unfortunately rejected after the 5th round due to not fitting the company culture, which seemed to emphasize a lack of work-life balance and a complete devotion to work, treating it as a personal business. They planned for around 8 or 9 interviews in total, involving HR, managers, the CEO, directors, and technical staff. The rejection at the 5th round meant I wasn't even close to finishing. The company seems to place a huge emphasis on cultural fit, referencing Patrick Lencioni's ideas about creating a 'family' atmosphere. While this is their approach, it wasn't clearly communicated upfront and led to a significant time investment. If you're looking for a 'family' environment and are okay with emotional rewards for full dedication without equity, this process might be straightforward. However, the expectation is complete devotion without the corresponding financial rewards.
- Would you, as a software engineer, be comfortable dedicating 30-40% of your work time to meetings or calls?
- Can you describe how you've handled failures in the past?
- What's your reaction when a manager rejects a proposal you've put forward?
Software Engineer
The interview process was quite smooth and enjoyable. It consisted of a few stages: HR, a coding interview, a technical interview, and a final discussion with the CTO/CEO. I found all parts to be good and really liked the people and the company culture, which led me to accept their offer.
- Can you explain the internal workings of B-tree indexes?
