Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Miva.
Web Developer
I applied online with my resume and portfolio. Then I had a phone interview where HR asked me about my work history over the last 5 years and why I chose to code. They scheduled an in-person interview for me about two weeks later, because of scheduling conflicts. The in-person interview was really relaxed. They looked at my code and asked questions related to the job. They offered me a drink and mentioned that the company is growing and they might have other roles for me if the developer position didn't work out. I really liked how the company seemed open to finding a role that fit my interests.

I had a screening video call with a recruiter. They asked a lot of basic questions and then offered a salary of 60-90k for a mid-level position. After that, they completely ghosted me. I sent a follow-up email but received no response. It would be nice to show some basic courtesy to candidates, wouldn't it?

Web Developer
It started with a phone interview with HR. You gotta be careful what you say here. They'll ask if you're cool with a $40k salary and a bonus that could get you another $10k a year. Watch out for this! If you agree to the lowball salary offer (it could be higher depending on you, but still not great), don't think you can negotiate later. If you ask for more, they'll end the interview. If you get past that, you'll have an in-person interview with the department director and maybe two managers or team leads who know their stuff. They'll ask you a mix of technical and personal questions, some based on your resume. After they decide, you'll get an email if it's a no, or a call if it's a yes. For web developers, they might even send a welcome card with candy.
