Behavioral Technical Presentation

The interview process had 3 rounds. The first was a 45-minute meeting with the hiring manager and program manager, covering standard resume questions. The second interview lasted an hour and included the hiring manager, program manager, a Project Manager, and a Scrum Master. I was asked to prepare and present a project plan and write an email summarizing a timeline. This was followed by questions about my presentation and thought process. The third interview was an hour with the hiring manager, program manager, two directors, and an HR rep. Although I was told it was a meet and greet, it felt like another first interview with scenario-based questions and HR questions about core values. I heard back a week after the third interview that I wouldn't get an offer because the HR rep vetoed the hire due to 'culture fit.' This was unexpected so late in the process. After several weeks of prep and interviewing with people I'd work with daily, it was infuriating for the HR rep to block the hire. They never asked for references or anything to further investigate my work history or past team experiences. Going through three interviews, including a presentation, and then having the HR rep pull the plug at the end is mind-boggling. It makes me think Mitacs might not empower employees to make decisions independently and is more focused on finding people who fit their culture without questioning things. Thankfully, I won't be working there.

First, I had a recruiter call where we talked about my past work and why I want to work at Mitacs. Then, after a week of silence, I got a meeting invite for the next round. No one asked me if the time worked or who I'd be meeting. This felt pretty dismissive. The next day, I got another invite for a third round without checking if the time worked. I also had to create a project plan with less than 24 hours' notice. The questions in this round were pretty standard. Overall, I felt Mitacs wasn't very considerate of the candidate experience.
