Typically, there are two rounds to get hired as a staff/classified member. The first is with the hiring committee, which includes about 5-6 people from your department/field. It can be intense but everyone is nice. Sometimes this round includes a practical test, like making an Excel or Word file. The second and last interview is with the Dean and VP of the department. This one is more chill, more of a meet-and-greet to see if you fit the school's vibe.

The process starts with an online application where you answer some questions, which takes about an hour. Next is an in-basket test, which is like doing your old job as a secretary or admin assistant for 60 minutes with a packet of tasks, calendars, and emails. You need to get a score of 28 or better to pass, and you'll hear back within a week. If you pass, the application review committee will look at your application, and if they like it, they'll call you about a month later for the first interview. This interview includes a skills test for Excel and Word, and writing an email, which takes about 25 minutes and only requires basic skills. After that, you'll have a group interview with several people to discuss questions. If you get a callback the same week, you'll have a second interview with a smaller group (maybe 3 people) from the specific department to see if you're a good cultural fit. You should know by the end of the day if you got the job offer.

The first interview is a panel with 6 managers. You'll enter a room for a 30-minute Word/Excel test. Afterwards, you'll have 10 minutes to look over 20 interview questions before facing the panel. They'll proceed down the list asking you the questions. At the end, you'll have a chance to ask them questions. The second interview is a relaxed discussion with the hiring manager and a VP.

First, there was a writing part, then 10 minutes to check out the interview questions, and then a panel interview with 5 people who asked questions. Each person asked one question and they didn't show any emotion. They had straight faces, so you had no idea if they liked you or not.
