First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Minuteman Press.
Graphic Designer
After I applied online, I got a message asking to set up an in-person interview. It was pretty relaxed. They showed me the print room and explained what the work would be like, what they expect from me, and the responsibilities I would have. I had a few standard questions like why I want to work there, my education/work experience, strengths/weaknesses, etc.
- What is your understanding of our company?
- Could you share your strengths and weaknesses?
- Can you tell me about your educational background and work history?
Graphic Designer
I met with the owner first, and he asked if we had spoken before. When I said no, I asked why he thought we had. He mentioned high employee turnover, which I noted as a red flag, especially since there are only two graphic designers. The salary range was $20-$27, which is a big difference. Then his wife came in and interviewed me. She asked standard questions like 'how do you handle fast paced environments' without looking at my resume. I said I was used to it from 20 years as a graphic designer. She then asked 'how do you deal with frustration from bosses when you make a mistake.' I answered that I double-check my work to avoid mistakes, but if they happen, I understand frustration since they deal with customers. She responded that she doesn't like mistakes, they fall on her, and I could be replaced if I made them. Her demeanor made it clear why they have high turnover, though the owner was very kind.
- How do you cope with demanding work environments?
- How do you handle feeling frustrated by your boss's reaction to an error you've made?

The interview process was fast. I met them in person for the first interview. They were very fast-paced with the process. I went for a second interview to discuss hours, salary, etc. A couple of days later, I was given an offer.
- How does your past experience relate to this position?
