Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Mintel.
Account Executive
The first interview was on Zoom, which was quite interesting. Then there was a second interview on the premises. I thought I did a decent job even though I was stressed. After that, I didn't hear anything back from the company, and they couldn't even give me feedback, not even negative feedback. I'm really disappointed by how they treated candidates, considering how much effort we put in and how little we're considered.
- What kind of management style do you prefer to work under?
Account Executive
First, there was a phone interview and then an in-person interview. Both were pretty standard, mostly asking about my experience and going over my resume. Then, I had to do a mock email exercise at home, which was pretty straightforward. The final in-person interview involved a 30-minute job shadow. After that, I had to do a role play with the hiring managers, using the same scenario as the mock email. It was a bit awkward. I was supposed to meet with the VP of Sales next, but was left alone for 10 minutes. The hiring manager came back and said the VP went home sick. I figured the awkward role play call had already ruined my chances.
- Can you explain why you're interested in joining Mintel?
- What is it about sales that appeals to you?
- What information do you have about this role so far?
Account Executive
(1) First, there's a call from HR to pre-qualify you. (2) Then you're called in for a formal interview with the manager, where they see if they like you. (3) Next, you get some homework: you need to prepare a mock cold call selling a Mintel report to a customer. (4) Finally, you interview with the VP and sales manager, and meet the team. They want to see if you are sociable, likeable, but also that you have a serious grasp on what is at stake. If you can somehow make them confident that you know how to bring in the ca$h and that you have a young, fun and vibrant (but professional) attitude, then they'll probably like you.
- How would you address customer objections and what are the right questions to ask when making a mock cold call?
