Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Ministère des Affaires Étrangères et Européennes.
Intern
I went through two interviews, each lasting about 30 to 40 minutes. The vibe was pretty friendly. They asked a lot about my work history and what I know.
- They asked some questions about a specific geographical area.
- There were questions about my past professional experiences.
- They also asked questions to gauge my knowledge.
Intern
All internship and apprenticeship applications are sent by email to the ministry's HR department, who does an initial screening and forwards 4-5 applications to the relevant department. The department then interviews candidates, usually after a good 6 weeks of waiting. The interview itself was 45 minutes long and took place in person at Quai d'Orsay. Several weeks after the interview, I received a generic email from the deputy director who interviewed me, rejecting my application. I never received any feedback on what I could have improved during the interview.
- Tell me about yourself in 3 minutes, but don't just repeat your cover letter.
- What is your interest in the sub-department's area?
- Can you give an example of a difficulty you faced in a professional setting and how you handled it?
Intern
There were two interviews with diplomats, covering personal and geopolitical topics, and your interest in the region of the internship. They also asked about languages you speak. Each interview lasted about 30 minutes and the questions were fairly easy, and the interviewers understand you might not know everything.
- What is your specific interest in this region?
- Can you converse in a foreign language?
