First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Ministère des Affaires Étrangères et Européennes.
Project Manager
One interview with 3 people: N+1, N+2, N+3. MEAE is a huge company and HR is swamped, so they don't always have time for interviews. I met my future managers directly for a conversation-style interview, which is harder to manage. One person led the conversation. You need to know when to speak up to show your experience. Hiring was done in 1 interview.
- Tell me about your team management experience.
Chargé De Mission
There were two interviews, one with HR and the other with the team. Both interviews were about 1 hour long. - HR interview: This interview included typical questions about my academic and professional background, personal situation, and future career prospects after this role. - Technical interview with the team: The technical questions were manageable with preparation and focused on project management skills and soft skills.
- What elements would you propose for a communication strategy to highlight the projects managed by the cooperation department?
Stage Communications et Média
The recruitment process involved two interviews. The conversations were friendly and the interviewers were very nice. The first interview focused mostly on my background, and the second one was more about the technical aspects of the role and what the team is looking for.
- Could you share your knowledge of the specific region and your experience with media projects?
Intern
All internship and apprenticeship applications are sent by email to the ministry's HR department, who does an initial screening and forwards 4-5 applications to the relevant department. The department then interviews candidates, usually after a good 6 weeks of waiting. The interview itself was 45 minutes long and took place in person at Quai d'Orsay. Several weeks after the interview, I received a generic email from the deputy director who interviewed me, rejecting my application. I never received any feedback on what I could have improved during the interview.
- Tell me about yourself in 3 minutes, but don't just repeat your cover letter.
- What is your interest in the sub-department's area?
- Can you give an example of a difficulty you faced in a professional setting and how you handled it?
