First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Mina Group.
Server
Terrible interview. The interviewer was not welcoming, seemed prude, short, and distracted. She didn't ask relevant questions for a server position, instead asking questions for a cook or bartender. My interview felt rushed and disorganized, despite arriving early. As someone with management and interviewing experience, this was the worst I've seen. Her questions didn't relate to my skills or the job. She didn't explain the day-to-day or company background, which was disappointing for a new fine dining restaurant opening by respected people.
- Can you explain the differences among various meat cuts?
Server
They asked questions about my previous work as a Server and went through my resume. I had to talk about my past experience as a Server and walk them through my timeline using my resume, specifically focusing on upscale dining experience. Towards the end, I was given time to talk about myself and my experience, and then they asked some food and wine related questions.
- How would you describe a menu item to a customer?
- Can you name three wine countries, their regions, and associated grape varietals?
- What grapes go into Bordeaux wine?
Line Cook
I applied online and got a call back the next day. I scheduled an interview for the following week. When I showed up, they told me to come back another day for a stage, even though I was expecting to work. I returned the next day for the stage, worked for 6 hours, and then got hired. The whole hiring process took two weeks.
- Tell me about your previous work experience.
- Do you have experience working on a hot line?
- How do you feel about working in a male-dominated environment as a woman?
