First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Miles IT.
IT Support Specialist
To make things quicker for everyone, they do a one-way video interview. It includes some strange personal questions and some pretty specific tech questions. I think a lot of people will be turned off by this, given how much time they already spend sending out applications into the void.
- Could you tell me about yourself, including your high school years and your feelings about that time?
- Can you talk about your work history, highlighting the most important roles you've held and your responsibilities?
- Describe your process for setting up Active Directory from the ground up for a company with 50 users across 3 locations.
IT Support Specialist
They have this weird thing where you have to record yourself answering questions from the CEO on a webpage, half are background, half are technical. It's a bit awkward since you're not talking to a real person, but the questions are pretty basic IT stuff about protocols, network troubleshooting, and the OSI model. Then there's a questionnaire about whether you prefer support, projects, or consulting. The second interview was with the hiring manager, which was pretty casual, just getting to know you and your skills and career goals. They seemed really interested in my MSP experience. The manager also stressed that although the title is Tier 2, the work is the same as Tier 1, which was a bit confusing.
- Can you explain the technical details of how accessing amazon.com works?
- What steps would you take if a client's site experiences a network outage?
- Could you describe the process of how email functions?
Help Desk Analyst
First, you take some assessments, including a Speed Quiz with lots of math problems (you have 5 minutes, and it's not expected to be finished, so don't look anything up) and an IT Assessment with various IT questions (you get 15 minutes, so you can check some things but not everything). After that, you'll have a phone screen with HR. If you pass that, they'll invite you for a very demanding in-person interview that lasts up to 3 hours. During this time, you'll sit at a computer and need to fix a Virtual Machine with several issues, answer technical questions, handle a call from a current employee to test your composure, and finally, speak with a senior supervisor about technology. Afterward, they will review your responses to decide on hiring you.
- Would you suggest Chrome or Internet Explorer?
- Can you define what a port is?
