Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Microchip Technology.
Hardware Engineer
I had a technical screen that covered basics of STA like rise and fall times, metastability, and the use of synchronizers. They also asked questions related to UVM and SystemVerilog. There was a programming challenge in C and questions about basic timing diagrams for asynchronous and synchronous counters, including wait cycles. Finally, they touched upon the concept of cache memory.
- What are the basics of STA, including rise and fall times and metastability?
- Can you explain the use of synchronizers?
- Do you have experience with UVM-based questions?
Hardware Engineer
I applied through campus placement. The process took 2 weeks and had 3 rounds: a technical test, a technical interview, and an HR interview. Candidates who passed the first round were then called for rounds 2 and 3.
- Could you explain the basics of digital electronics, particularly sequential circuits?
- What is your programming knowledge in C and Verilog?
- Might you be asked about static timing analysis?
Hardware Engineer
The interview process wasn't too tough, but it was unclear what to expect next. The HR team didn't give a salary range upfront even though they asked for my expectations. The final offer was much lower than I wanted, and they said that was their best.
- Could you interpret schematic designs?
- What software do you prefer to use?
