The interview process was really organized and ran smoothly. It was efficient, and the company made an effort to ensure everyone got a fair chance at the job. The difficulty was manageable, with standard questions about background, experience, and future expectations.

Behavioral Other

I recently interviewed for a Management role at Michaels corporate HQ. The hiring manager was completely unprepared and distracted during the interview. They were driving to get lunch and attempted to conduct the video call from their phone, paying very little attention to our conversation. At one point, the phone fell, and I was looking at the underside of their steering wheel for a couple of minutes until they could retrieve it. It was a really awkward and terrible experience that made me question their company culture. If they can't dedicate 30 minutes to an introductory conversation, I can only imagine what a typical workweek would be like.

Behavioral Technical

I got a call from an HR person who found my resume on Monster.ca. We scheduled a formal chat a few days later. This was a general Q&A about my resume and some basic 'why and how' questions. After that, I was set up by email for a phone interview with the head of HR, which happened four days later. This was another basic psychological interview, asking 'what would you do if' and 'how did you handle that' type questions. About a week later, I got a call to set up an in-store interview with the District Manager (DM) and a training Store Manager (SM). The DM was really nice, made me feel confident, but the SM was intimidating and asked negative questions. I got mixed signals – the DM made it sound like I'd like it there, that Michaels is a good place to work, has opportunities, and good work-life balance. The SM, though, focused on last-minute emails and my integrity.
