Customer Experience Manager
I applied online and then went in a few days later to return something and ask about my application. The full-time CEM talked to me right then about my availability and retail experience. Then, I was asked to come back later that day to meet the store manager. That interview went really well, and they said they needed to run it by their district manager, so I might have to interview with them too. A few days went by, so I called to check on it and was told I didn't have to meet the district manager, but I did need to come back to 'discuss a few things.' When I came back in, they offered me the job, pending a background check! That took 5 days to clear, and I start Monday!!!
- Why did you want to join Michaels?
- What creative activities do you enjoy?
- Can you tell us about your availability?
Customer Experience Manager
We use a system called PeopleAnswers to decide if we want to hire someone or re-hire someone who used to work here. Usually, there's just one interview unless you're going for a higher position like assistant store manager or above. Then, both the store manager and district manager will interview you. The training here isn't super detailed; you mostly learn by doing and figuring things out as you go.
- Can you tell us why you're interested in working at a craft store?
- What kind of art supplies or mediums have you used?
- Regarding painting, which medium do you prefer using?
Customer Experience Manager
I was already a member of the company and changed positions. I submitted a letter of interest and was interviewed not long after. The interview consisted of: 1. Why I was a better choice than other candidates applying (answer: I was already doing the job, just unofficially.) 2. Would I be able to commit to the somewhat challenging schedule? (answer: I had already discussed it with my spouse and it was something I could do easily.) 3. What new ideas could I bring to the program? (answer: I had a book ready full of ideas AND how to implement them right away.) After all applicants were interviewed, I was offered the position and a raise.
- The schedule for this position can be challenging and opposite where you're at right now. How do you think you'll be able to handle it? (Lots of late nights, in other words.)
