The hiring process was disorganized. The local HR representative was helpful, but the initial HR coordinator in Arizona failed to make our scheduled call. The in-person interview was unusual. I met the new hiring manager, who had just relocated and focused on discussing her own experiences. Then, I spoke with a potential colleague who seemed more interested in boasting about his and his family's long tenure at Michael Baker. Following this, I was asked to complete a test and a take-home assignment, essentially providing free work for the company. It was disappointing that after completing this, the company offered no response to my thank-you emails, only to send a standard rejection two months later. I'm aware of two other candidates who applied for the same role in this department, and both shared negative feedback about their experience.

The interview process gave me a strong impression of the company - but not in a great way. The first interview was a group interview via zoom with about 1/2 dozen people. They each asked several questions and while I think the content and type of questions were relevant, the overall demeanor seemed to be very somber and unenergized. At the end of the 1 hour session, I honestly didn't obtain a great overview of what the role was going to be, but they had mentioned that they would like me to move to the next round and I was hoping to see if perhaps a better picture would be painted at that point about what the essence of the position was. Nothing. Totally ghosted even after several follow-up emails. Perhaps it is best I did not hear back.
