The interview felt professional. I got to chat with the principal and assistant principal about the difficulties I've faced. They asked me which grade I liked teaching most and why. They also presented different situations and asked how I would handle them.

Panel interview downtown - way back in the day - 1999. All the higher ups sat around a large conference table and asked questions. The school district was very different back then. Student Services was a highly respected and powerful department each campus. We were the heart of the campus. The district has recently started to move back toward that under the leadership of Mr. Moore because of his experience in alternative ed. and his understanding of serving the whole student so they can be "present" and learn while at school. The pendulum is finally swinging back to respect. There is a long way to go still.

I was hired by the Assistant Principal and the person in charge of the After school Program. They took turns asking me questions. They asked a lot of questions about my previous jobs and/or what future jobs I am looking into. Make sure you are on time and dress professionally. Also, make sure you are on the correct street, as finding the door for the interview was difficult for me.

Online process at first and then a face-to-face interview with the recruiter. I was asked what I would contribute to being a substitute teacher and if I was completely bi-lingual, and in what languages. They also asked how long I have resided in Miami, Florida and if I was planning on continuing to live in Miami.

Confirmed questions2 questions
  • Were you previously a teacher in Miami/Dade?
  • Were you looking for a permanent position as a substitute teacher?
