First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Miami Dade County.
Pollution Control Inspector
It was a panel interview with 4-5 upper management employees. They asked a lot of questions about my experience and then I had to do a writing part at the end. It wasn't too hard, you just need to know how to answer questions with the most logical outcome.
- In what ways does your experience make you a strong candidate for this role?
HR Program Specialist
The interview process was quite bureaucratic and drawn out. It usually involves a panel interview, though not all panelists are always knowledgeable about the specific role. The process can feel intimidating, and it often seems like they've already chosen a candidate and are just going through the motions to satisfy requirements. I was fortunate because the pre-selected candidate became unavailable at the last minute.
- Tell me about your experience with HR programs.
- How would you handle a situation where you need to manage a program with limited resources?
- Describe a time you had to collaborate with different departments on an HR initiative.
Systems Administrator
After you apply online, HR will check to see if you meet the basic needs for the job. If you do, you might get picked for an interview based on your resume and cover letter. You'll probably have a panel interview with people from the department. They'll ask you questions that are both behavioral and situational, focusing on the job and what Miami Dade County cares about. After you interview, the panel will talk about everyone, and they might check your references. Finally, they'll let you know if they want to offer you the job (with salary and benefits) or if you didn't get it.
- If a user says they can't get to a certain website, what would you do to figure out why?
Biologist
So, there are 5 questions, and each interviewer scores each question out of 5. You'll need to know plant species, and also be ready to talk about a situation where you had organizational or time pressure and how you dealt with it. Oh, and also be ready to discuss your strengths and weaknesses.
- Can you name invasive plant species found in the County?
- Can you name native plant species found in the County?
- Tell me about a time you experienced pressure due to organization or time constraints and how you navigated it.
