& Process

There was some initial confusion about the specific role I was interviewing for. I had applied for a position in the curatorial department, so I assumed the interview invitation was for a curatorial role. However, during the interview, I realized I was actually interviewing for an internship with the department's administrative team. Naturally, I didn't perform well in the interview after that discovery. The interviewers themselves were pleasant, and the interview followed a typical format for an internship position.

I applied online and then heard back for an interview about two weeks later. Even though it was The Met, and I was super nervous, the interview itself was pretty straightforward, almost like a one-way conversation. The interviewer spent most of the time talking about the museum and the role, and I mostly just listened. When they did ask questions, it was mainly about why I wanted the position, what specifically drew me to this particular job, and some general questions about my past work experience. The interview went on for over an hour, longer than any other I've had. They even took me around to introduce me to the department staff and explain more about their work. I honestly thought they might offer me the job right then and there. But they didn't. Just so you know, The Met only hires two interns per department, which makes getting in incredibly competitive.

I applied for an Education Intern position and was interviewed. They sent me an article to read and then I met with three other intern candidates and three (maybe four) staff members to discuss the reading. It was comfortable, and we had an interesting conversation, but group interviews are always a bit difficult. We then were split up and each interviewee was interviewed by one of the staff members. I felt mine went fine but wondered what the others were like and if I would have clicked better/worse/differently with someone else.
