First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Metropolitan Museum of Art.
Intern
The interview felt really conversational. They asked about what I've been working on and what I'm interested in, to make sure my answers weren't rehearsed. Because of this, it wasn't super formal or scary, which was nice.
- What makes you want to join the Met?
Intern
There was some initial confusion about the specific role I was interviewing for. I had applied for a position in the curatorial department, so I assumed the interview invitation was for a curatorial role. However, during the interview, I realized I was actually interviewing for an internship with the department's administrative team. Naturally, I didn't perform well in the interview after that discovery. The interviewers themselves were pleasant, and the interview followed a typical format for an internship position.
- What motivates your desire to work at the Met?
Education Associate
The recruiter was wearing a robe, which was completely unprofessional. I wasn't expecting that and wish I had recorded it to report. They weren't serious about the interview at all. I wish we could go back to the old days when HR conducted interviews.
- How do you think you are suitable for this position?
Production Artist
The interview process started fast with getting an interview scheduled, but then it took a very long time to hear back. The interview itself was conducted over Zoom and the questions were professional and formal. I never heard back from a real person until months and months later when I received an automated response stating they had decided to go with another candidate.
