& Process

I went through three phone interviews. First, an HR rep did a quick screening. Then, I had a chat with a team leader who was in another state, even though the job was in Chicago, and also with a Senior Research Manager from a different office. I wanted to learn all I could about the job, but also asked about what I'd read online – the heavy workload, bad work/life balance, and people usually working 60 hours. Nobody really gave me a straight answer. The HR person said they 'strive' for balance, which is a vague statement. The Team Leader implied that if people work 60 hours, they're probably not efficient enough. The Senior Research Manager basically said those people are ex-employees for a reason, which sounded pretty dismissive. They then said the next step was a 4-hour in-person interview. I figured that if a company is this cagey about basic questions and asks for such a huge time commitment for an interview, it's probably not a good fit. So, I decided not to proceed. My advice if you're considering this company: ask very pointed questions about workload and the time commitment involved. It seems they're growing fast and need people, so they might be hesitant to be upfront about work/life balance issues.

There were two interview rounds with the research team where I discussed my studies and affinity for research. I also spoke with someone from the sales team. After an introductory round, there was a lot of information shared about the role and its responsibilities.

It was a very open and informal interview procedure. They really value honesty and find it most important that applicants show a passion for research. The process had 3 interview rounds: a personal introduction, a case interview, and an interview with the client director.
