Sales Representative
I'm not sure if this is standard practice because I haven't interviewed much in insurance, but I was a bit skeptical. He asked me to send him an Excel sheet with 500 phone numbers and names from my contacts within 3 days. If I was selected, there would be an online interview and then another one, presumably until I got hired. Of course, I didn't have 500 contacts to send, and it felt more like they were collecting data for their sales team rather than just hiring someone... But again, I'm still not sure if this is how it's normally done.
- Tell me about your background and experience.
Sales Leader
I had a virtual interview with someone from Ireland, which was a bit unusual for a US-based role, but she was nice. It felt like it might have been for a quota. The job was about supporting MetLife P&C Independent Agencies remotely. She asked good questions about my experience, industry knowledge, and achievements. However, Metlife's follow-up after the interview was pretty bad. The Irish team and the US team didn't seem to communicate, and I think my application got lost. The US contacts were really slow to respond, unlike the person from Ireland, who was great but not a decision-maker. We had some good chats, and she seemed genuine. The interview itself was okay, but their HR and different departments need to get better at communicating with candidates so they don't waste people's time. Oh, and I liked their Taleo platform and the personality questionnaire; it helped me understand my strengths and how to talk about them in relation to the job.
- Can you share your experience managing independent contractors?
- Describe a situation where you helped your team achieve their sales targets.
- How do you manage working across different time zones and using technology to connect with people?
Sales
I applied online and got an email for a phone screen a week later. It was about 20 mins, covering job details and some insurance background questions. The next day, I heard back to schedule a face-to-face interview for the following week. This interview was with two hiring managers, one in person and one remote. It felt more like a chat than an interrogation, which I liked, and they were clear about the job. A few days after, I got an email to set up a call with the director of the general agency. They had Saturday openings, which I took, thinking they wanted to see my commitment. It all worked out, and I got the offer!
- Can you share an instance where you had the chance to make a decision but chose not to? What happened as a result?
- What makes you want to work for MetLife?
