First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Messer Construction.
Risk Management Intern
The interview process was pretty smooth. I started with a phone screening with the recruiter. After that, I went in person for an interview where two managers asked me questions. The vibe was somewhat laid back but also serious.
- Can you tell me about your strengths and weaknesses?
Estimator
It was a really quick process since it was for a co-op role. Only one phone interview happened, and then I got an offer right after. The hiring process was a bit strange because I wasn't given much information about what I'd be doing, except that it's somewhat related to what I'm studying.
- Can you describe a difficult situation you encountered while collaborating with others and how you resolved it?
Field Engineer
After going to my University career fair and chatting with a Messer Construction recruiter, who I think was a Project Manager, I got a call to come in for an interview the next week. It was to meet the Director of Field Operations. The interview was pretty standard and not too tough. The questions were mostly behavioral, not very technical, as he mainly wanted to assess my cultural fit. My advice for this initial interview is not to stress too much; the questions were all behavioral and management-oriented, so be ready for that. The only odd part was arriving 15 minutes early and being shown to a large conference room and told to sit wherever I wanted. I considered sitting at the head of the table but wasn't sure if that would be well-received. I was left alone in that room for at least 10 minutes, possibly the full fifteen, in quiet isolation before he came in to talk about my skills and interests.
- What are your methods for assessing quality?
- Describe your approach to managing an employee who is not meeting expectations.
Human Resources Co-Op
Sent in my resume and then got a call for a phone interview. We talked about my background and some behavioral questions. Then I came into the office once for an in-person interview. It was pretty quick and straightforward, nothing tricky. It lasted about 30-45 minutes.
- Can you share an instance where you had to maintain confidentiality?
- Could you walk me through your resume?
- What draws you to a career in HR?
