First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at MercyOne.
Registered Nurse
The interview process is pretty straightforward. You meet with 3 managers at the same time. One person leads the questioning, while the other two focus on taking notes and observing. This differs from UnityPoint's process because there's no initial phone screening; you go straight to talking with the department's hiring managers.
- Can you share an instance where you had to rebuild a patient's or their family's trust in MercyOne?
- Could you describe the care you provided for the most critically ill patient you've encountered?
Registrar
The process was pretty slow. The phone screen was about a week away, and then the 1:1 interview was almost two weeks after that. I spoke with one hiring manager. We talked about the job, my experience, and they asked me some questions. I also got to ask them questions.
- Can you describe a time you had to deal with a difficult person who was yelling at you?
Financial Advisor
I was cold called by a third-party recruiter. I had two chats with the agency, then one zoom meeting and an on-site interview with the Mercy One team. This whole thing took about two weeks. In the end, they told me they hired someone internally. I don't even know why I bothered going through this. I put my best effort in, did my research, went through interviews, only for them to disregard it. My experience here felt the same. They probably knew they were going to hire internally from the start but still made everyone go through this process. It was shameless and pathetic. They wasted my time. It was super frustrating and left a really bad impression of the company.
- Could you walk me through your background and explain what sparked your interest in this role?
Billing Specialist
The interview process involved an initial phone screen with HR where they went over my resume, essentially read through the job description, and confirmed my continued interest. This was followed by an in-person interview with both the manager and supervisor. Subsequently, HR contacted me again to request references and other information. A rather unusual requirement was that I had to provide proof of my employment history for the last 14 years, which included things like pay stubs, W2s, or official letters from past employers. This demand seemed quite unreasonable given that standard record retention periods are much shorter, and it was for an entry-level billing role that doesn't require specialized credentials.
- Generic questions asked out of habit.
