First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Mercury Insurance Company.
Human Capital Business Partner
You start with a screening interview to go over the basics of the role and see if it's a good fit. If it is, then depending on the specific role, you'll either interview with the hiring manager and then have a meet and greet with a leader (higher or lower level), or if it's a leadership role, you'll do a panel interview.
- Can you share an instance where you had to provide coaching to someone senior to you or a colleague?
Data Governance Analyst
I had an interview scheduled, but the recruiter ghosted me. After waiting 20 minutes, I emailed them and they said they were running late and needed to reschedule for the next day. The next morning, the recruiter didn't show up again. I called and emailed multiple times with no response for over a month. Then they finally got back to me and said another candidate had verbally accepted the offer when my interview was supposed to happen. The recruiter did apologize, but honestly, this whole thing shows me Mercury's recruiting process is messed up.

Litigation Paralegal
I had an interview with HR, then was referred to the Paralegal Supervisor. They asked me questions about my experience related to the job, and the interview went well, but I got a rejection letter. A week later, HR called saying it was a mistake and scheduled me for a second interview with upper management. They asked generic workplace questions that weren't relevant to the tasks. After that interview, I didn't hear back from HR for over a week. I reached out to HR again and got another generic rejection letter. The whole process took way too long and they didn't seem to care about responding to candidates. I wouldn't apply again.
- How do you like to be acknowledged for good work?
Analyst
I interviewed for the analyst role at Mercury Insurance. The recruiter rescheduled the phone screening three times without proper notice, including a last-minute cancellation without any communication. During the actual interview, the recruiter's demeanor was abrupt and unsympathetic. Despite possessing the necessary skills and experience for the role, I was not selected to move forward. The negative experience with the recruiter significantly tarnished my perception of the company. I hope future candidates are prepared for a less-than-ideal interview process and that Mercury Insurance can improve its recruitment practices.
