First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Merck KGaA.
Scientist
It was a one hour teams meeting. They asked the typical questions to see if you had researched the company, and then they asked more questions about the job requirements, referencing your CV/cover letter.
- What would you do in a scenario with a testing issue?
Senior Scientist
We started with an intro, then there was a scientific talk with questions. After that, the lab leader interviewed me, and it was important to show interest and ask a good amount of questions myself. Then we had lunch, which was more about getting a feel for each other. Next was an interview with the directors, which can vary depending on who you meet. Finally, there was an interview with partner functions.
- Can you tell us about your scientific background?
- What motivates you to apply for this position?
Scientist
First, there were some get-to-know-you questions. Then I had to give a scientific presentation. After that, there were competency-based questions that seemed to go on forever, with two interviewers who barely looked at me because they were writing everything down. Finally, there was a facility tour.
- Can you share an instance where you successfully navigated a scientific obstacle?
