Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Mercado Libre.
Java Developer
The interviewers were really cool, and they really emphasized understanding the company's philosophy and how they work. We didn't talk much about code, more about the human side of things.
- How is your English proficiency and knowledge of specific libraries?
- Can you discuss your understanding of the company's philosophy and work methodologies?
Java Developer
Had a questionnaire covering SQL concepts, table management, and the pillars of object-oriented programming in Java. These were theoretical questions, some with application aspects. Afterwards, I had two Hackerrank exercises to complete.
- What are the pillars of OOP and how do they manifest in Java?
Senior Java Developer
A recruiter reached out on LinkedIn and did an initial screening with me. Then there was an interview, which felt like an extended screening. They asked me general questions about system implementation. The final part was a technical challenge: building a Proof of Concept (PoC) for an app similar to Mercado Libre. The app needs to display products, show available payment methods, and information about the seller. Afterwards, I had to present the project and answer system design questions.
- Regarding scaling, how would you approach horizontal and vertical expansion of your system?
- What would be your process for incorporating an additional payment method into your application?
- Could you share your experience with relational or NoSQL databases and explain your reasoning for choosing one over the other?
