First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Mercado Libre.
Backend Engineer
First, they sent an email for two tests: a cognitive one (20 mins) and a technical HackerRank test with 12 questions in 1 hour 50 mins. The first question was a simple data structure exercise. The second was harder and took most of the time, involving API interaction with pagination via queries and a specific task. The rest were multiple-choice on data structures, testing, algorithmic complexity, HTTP, GitHub. The last question gave a scenario to solve with a prompt. After 3 weeks, they contacted me with job info, and I'm waiting for their email to proceed.
- Given a sorted array of size n, what is the execution time of binary search?
Backend Engineer
This is an interview with a tech lead and a senior developer from the team. It's recommended to study and have clear theoretical concepts. The interview lasts about an hour.
- How would you manage idempotent transactions?
Backend Developer
The whole thing took over two months and had 5 interviews: Recruiter, Senior Devs, Project Lead, Project Manager, and Tech Lead. There was also a technical challenge (basic API). Communication was bad, and it went on hold for no reason. I only heard back when I reached out. Even though I spent a lot of time on it and got to the final stages with the leadership, the rejection was just a generic email. They weren't clear about the timeline and didn't seem to care about my time.
- Can you discuss best practices for Java development?
- What are your best practices for writing database queries?
- How would you approach building a scalable infrastructure?
