Technical Coding

It was a long and intense interview process. The person who did my last technical interview was new to the team and had a senior colleague shadowing. He wasn't very professional, and the senior colleague apologized for his attitude during the interview. I decided not to move forward with the hiring process after they invited me to their office for the final step.

I applied and the recruiter called me to set up a phone interview. The phone interview was pretty straightforward, covering topics like DNS, DHCP, Firewalls, ACLs, IPSEC, VPNs, wireless, and Wireshark. A couple days later, the recruiter called to say I passed and they wanted to meet me in person. I went to their London office, which is nice but a bit small. The onsite involved technical questions about packet flow, ICMP, VLANs, STP, Trunking, and 802.1q using whiteboards, which took about an hour. After that, I had an hour-long meeting with a manager that was more about getting to know my personality.

First, I had a 30-minute phone call with the technical support manager. It was a chance to learn about the company and the role, and they asked me some technical questions about networking fundamentals, going into quite deep detail. Then, I went for an onsite interview at their London office. It was a more in-depth technical interview with whiteboard scenarios. After that, I had a call with senior management in the US, which was more of a character interview. Finally, they flew me out to San Francisco for another onsite interview, which was similar to the London one.

  • Can you explain in detail how packets travel across a network?
