I communicated directly with the PI. The process involved a presentation, followed by a day of short interviews with lab members. It concluded with a meeting with the PI, which felt like an offer, though the finalization was done via email.

I first had a Skype chat with the Principal Investigator (PI) about my background and what I'm interested in. After that, I came in person and gave a presentation of my graduate research project to the whole lab. Then, I had a more in-depth discussion with the PI and the lab members about the research projects we have going on.

This was similar to 5 other places I interviewed. I had an initial Zoom chat with the Principal Investigator (PI), and then a few weeks later, I was invited for a formal interview with the lab. This involved giving a virtual seminar for about an hour, followed by one-on-one meetings with lab members and the PI. I heard back pretty quickly after that, though I guess that depends on the lab. Overall, everyone was nice and it was a good experience.
