Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Memorial Health University Medical Center.
Nurse
Got interviewed by a panel of managers from different departments like med/surg, ICU, ED, and mom/baby & L&D. Each group asked the same set of questions: 'Tell us about yourself', priority/delegation questions, and how I've handled situations in the past. The interviewers were nice and not intimidating. Interviews were short, about 15 minutes, because there were so many candidates. This interview process is good prep for other nurse residency interviews. Each department's interviewers had a different vibe.
- Can you tell us about yourself?
- Tell me about a time you had to delegate and prioritize. What was the situation and how did you approach it?
- Describe a past situation where you had to delegate and prioritize. What happened and how did you handle the situation?
Registered Nurse
I interviewed for a nurse residency program. They told me that working at the hospital while I was in school would help me get in, so I did that for a year before applying. They asked me to pick my top 3 interview spots. But while I waited for the interview dates, I found out that the places I picked had already promised spots to people who had been working there longer than me while they were in school. So, my interviews were kind of a waste of time.
- What animal would you be if you could be one?
Registered Nurse
I had one interview since I was returning to work at MHUMC in the same role I held before 2009. My old boss needed someone urgently for the position, so there was no room to negotiate salary. MHUMC tends to pay as little as possible.
- Are you willing to accept a lower salary?
