& Process

I first emailed back and forth with the recruiter for the role. We had an initial chat and I was told I'd hear about the next steps. It was hard to get updates, and I'd go 1.5-2 weeks without hearing anything. I got an assessment emailed to me on a Friday afternoon with hardly any instructions and was asked when I could get it done. Since it was a busy workday, I said I'd do it after work and email it back that Friday evening so it could be reviewed on Monday. After a long silence, the recruiter emailed and said the hiring manager was going with someone else. I asked for feedback and was told I'd get it but never heard back. I'm not even mad about not getting the role, the communication was so bad, but I figured it'd be good practice for future chances. It was definitely an interesting experience.

I applied online, and about two weeks later, got an email to set up an initial phone chat for Friday. That following Tuesday, I actually spoke with a recruiter. It was a basic entry-level interview, mainly focused on why I wanted to work at Meetup and what about this specific job appealed to me. The call lasted about 30 minutes. They said I'd know about moving forward by Thursday or Friday, but I got an email just 15 minutes later saying I was progressing! The next Tuesday, I went in for an in-person interview at Meetup with the Head of Office Experience. They gave me a quick tour of the nice office, were really friendly, offered me drinks, and made me feel super welcome. This second interview was around 45 minutes and covered my resume and just me as a person. Meetup really seems to prioritize hiring people who are a good fit for the company and its values. After that, they mentioned I'd hear back by the end of the week, but on the following Wednesday, they let me know I'd have a final interview. I met with four team members that Friday. It was like speed dating interviews – four 30-minute chats back-to-back. Everyone I talked to seemed genuinely interested in me and my past experiences. You can tell they want to get to know you and actually read your resume carefully. All the interviews were really pleasant, more like casual chats than stressful interviews. The team never made me feel weird or unwelcome. I was really impressed that they remembered my name from the prior interview and how generous they were, constantly asking if I wanted drinks or a break. I found out the next Thursday that I got the job! The employees made me feel like part of the team even before I started – it was honestly the best interview experience I've ever had. I'm super excited to start my career here and join Meetup.

This was one of the best interview experiences I've had, totally different from the negative reviews out there. The recruiters were super friendly and kept things moving smoothly. It was a big mix of technical and behavioral stuff. You really need to be passionate about their mission and a strong culture fit. The office is great and everyone was so welcoming. I interviewed right after the WeWork acquisition, so the energy was really positive and exciting. I felt like there's a lot of room to grow here. I happily accepted the offer a week later.

I applied twice and got a call to set up a phone interview, which happened a few days later. It went well, and then I was asked to come in for a one-on-one interview. When I got there, it didn't feel very welcoming. I kind of sensed right away that it was one of those interviews where the company is just going through the motions. The person at the office was pretty direct and told me to sit down. I guess I was expecting a bit more of a friendly vibe. The person who interviewed me on the phone also interviewed me in person. They asked the exact same questions as the phone interview, and I just expanded on my answers. Regarding the job itself, I really felt my experience matched the description perfectly. The interviewer took notes, saying they'd pass them on to higher-ups. When I got a generic, automated email saying I didn't get the job, I just kind of shrugged. Since they already knew my answers from the first interview and asked the same questions again, it felt like a total waste of time. It left a bad impression of the company, especially considering their focus on people.
