First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Medtronic.
Principal Software Engineer
This was a contract job, and the interview process involved a team/panel interview with two interviewers per panel, followed by a final interview with the manager. I received an offer within two days. The role is remote, with me working from my home in California for their team located in Minnesota.
- Can you discuss security boot?
- Tell me about cellular communication.
- What are your thoughts on network security?
Software Engineer
I interviewed for an Android app development role. The first round was a written test covering Kotlin, OOPs, Android, and a couple of C++ questions. My second round was supposed to be with a specific person, but they weren't available, so someone else conducted the interview. This person was a .NET developer and seemed to be looking up questions online. They asked about runtime permissions and multilevel inheritance. I answered everything, but because they were a .NET developer, they didn't seem to grasp my answers. After I explained runtime permissions, they asked a random question. It was very unprofessional!
- Can you explain how to handle runtime permissions in Android?
- How does multilevel inheritance work in Kotlin, specifically calling a grandparent method from a child class?
Software Engineer
I was contacted by a manager via email. The first interview was a zoom call to discuss my background and had a small coding part. After that initial screening, I went straight into a panel interview. This panel interview was with the dev manager and another dev, and it went really well for the first round. They asked basic STAR questions. The final panel interview was with a senior dev and the hiring manager. It was the worst interview I've ever had. The senior dev interrupted me a lot. The hiring manager and senior dev seemed to not be on the same page. This round included a coding question, and after I explained my pseudocode, the senior dev asked how I would implement it. The hiring manager and senior dev were really unprofessional. Medtronic should not put people who don't know coding in technical interviews.
- Could you tell me about some projects you've been involved with?
- What makes you want to join Medtronic?
