Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Medtronic.
Engineer
My interview process with Medtronic for about 4 different positions in Minnesota was super long, dragging on for more than a month. It involved multiple rounds of interviews that ultimately didn't lead to a next step, and then I'd just get an email saying I wasn't selected. For two of the positions, I didn't even get an email beforehand; the hiring managers just called me out of the blue expecting an interview. I should have realized it was a red flag after the second position's interview.
- What motivated your choice to join Medtronic?
Engineer
I had an interview with the team manager who was super friendly and happy to answer my questions. They asked me some technical questions about medical devices and software. After that, there was a panel interview with three engineers. They mostly asked about my previous work experiences and then I got to ask them some questions. One of the panelists asked a technical question that was really specific to the work they do. Overall, everyone was really nice and seemed genuinely enthusiastic about their jobs. It was one of my better interview experiences, even with the technical questions, because everyone was so respectful and passionate.
- What are the basics of programming languages?
- How would you test this requirement?
- Tell me about your past experiences.
Engineer
They mostly asked questions to test my ability to navigate workplace politics, and hardly evaluated my technical skills. The one technical question they asked was in the area I previously told them I had no previous experience in. Overall it felt like they were grilling me and the environment seemed cutthroat and competitive. I would not have accepted an offer if I received one.
- Can you share an instance where you facilitated better communication among individuals from diverse backgrounds?
- Tell me about a situation where you had to collaborate with a colleague you had disagreements with. What was your approach?
- Tell me about a time you had to get people from different backgrounds to communicate better.
